This page serves as our public-facing ledger of economic growth, visual transformations, and volunteer mobilization. By tracking these metrics annually with our coordinating state program, Michigan Main Street (MMS), we demonstrate how local collaboration and Tax Increment Financing (TIF) capture directly revitalize our historic commercial core.

Since achieving our Select Level designation in 2021 and successfully climbing to the prestigious Master Level in 2026, Downtown Adrian has established a continuous trajectory of upward economic mobility.

Fiscal Year 2021 – 2022 Focus: Establishing the Foundation and Building Momentum New Businesses Opened: 6 storefronts (Baseline) Private Investment: $150,000 Cumulative Façade Projects: 77 buildings Est. Annual Event Attendance: 22,750 attendees Key Historic Milestones: Select Level Designation: Successfully secured intensive technical assistance from the MEDC to deploy the Main Street Four-Point Approach®. The Adrian City Market: Established the downtown farmers market pavilion, expanding access to fresh, healthy produce in an underserved city sector. Historic Streetlighting: Began installation of historic-style decorative lampposts to improve pedestrian safety and restore vintage architectural charm. Placemaking Parklets: Built and deployed seasonal seating parklets within the Downtown Adrian Restaurant Area (D.A.R.A.), allowing patrons to enjoy local dining outdoors.

Fiscal Year 2022 – 2023 Focus: Activating Public Spaces and Protecting Pedestrians New Businesses Opened: 5 storefronts (Cumulative: 11) Private Investment: $75,000 (Cumulative: $225,000) Cumulative Façade Projects: 81 buildings (4 completed this cycle) Est. Annual Event Attendance: 47,850 attendees (A 110% increase in downtown foot traffic!) Key Historic Milestones: Retractable Safety Bollards: Coordinated with City DPW to install commercial-grade retractable bollards, physically securing street event boundaries and ensuring pedestrian safety during First Fridays and festivals. Toledo Street Pavilion Upgrades: Fully winterized and upgraded the pavilion's electrical capacity to support food trucks and catering, adding year-round public restrooms. Hanging Baskets & Banners: Partnered with the City and the local Kiwanis Club to mount decorative floral brackets, seasonal banners, and American flags to the newly installed historic light poles.

Fiscal Year 2023 – 2024 Focus: Strategic Parking, Real Estate Acquisitions, and Digital Reach New Businesses Opened: 8 storefronts (Cumulative: 19) Private Investment: $242,600 (Cumulative: $467,600) Cumulative Façade Projects: 88 buildings (7 completed this cycle) Annual Volunteer Service: 1,125 hours contributed (Estimated in-kind value of $35,538) Est. Annual Event Attendance: 27,500 attendees Key Historic Milestones: Church Street Lot Expansion: Added 20+ new public parking spaces to alleviate density during evening dining peaks. 142 N. Winter Street Acquisition: Purchased the vacant parcel to secure real estate for future strategic parking expansion and pocket-park designs. Storyville Initiative: Successfully launched "Storyville," a local storytelling program featuring 24 participating downtown merchant windows. Digital Branding Surge: Expanded the DDA's social media presence to over 5,500+ Facebook followers and established an active TikTok channel (1,200+ followers) to market to younger regional demographics.

Fiscal Year 2024 – 2025 Focus: Public Art, Family Spaces, and Growing Events New Businesses Opened: 3 storefronts (Cumulative: 22) Private Investment: [CONFIRM AMOUNT] (Cumulative: [CONFIRM]) Cumulative Façade Projects: [CONFIRM] buildings Annual Volunteer Service: 850 hours contributed (Estimated in-kind value of $27,939) Est. Annual Event Attendance: 30,475 attendees Key Historic Milestones: "Greetings from Adrian" Mural: Commissioned the first of many planned downtown murals, funded by a MEDC vibrancy grant. Located at the main four corners of downtown, it welcomes visitors daily. Library Square Playground: Added a safe, inclusive recreation area for families in the heart of downtown. Free Concert at Artalicious: Brought country artist Julia Cole downtown for a free concert at an already successful event. July First Friday Fireworks: Fireworks returned for a second consecutive year. Expanded Event Lineup: Events included the Comstock Christmas Riverwalk, First Fridays, Small Business Saturday, Pride Festival, Artalicious, Student Welcome Back Event, Juneteenth and Downtown Trick or Treating. Social Media Growth: Reached 6,200+ Facebook followers, 1,230+ Instagram followers and 1,045+ TikTok followers. 2024 Pulse of Downtown (Community Survey): 59% of respondents visit downtown most often for dining, 32% said their visits increased over the past year, and 59% described recent downtown trends as improving or making progress.
